American Cowgirl

Honoring the Spirit of Women and Horses

“Dude and Her Dog”

Mary Ellen \Mary Ellen “Dude” Barton
Flomot, Texas

Dude says she doesn’t know how she got that nickname. She helped start the Girls Rodeo Association in the 1950’s and was a big rodeo star herself. She competed against men and would usually win. She said if they won they might get $25. Now in her 80’s, she runs a cattle ranch and sits on a tractor 10 hours a day chewing tobacco. Dude is the great aunt of a friend of mine. She told us to call her Aunt Dude.

One of a series of limited edition fine art photographs from the American Cowgirl collection.
