My sister Kara

July 15th, 2008

I stumbled across your website and have thoroughly enjoyed your work, mostly because it reminds me of a true American Cowgirl close to my heart - my sister Kara.  She has been a competition rider since the age of four and still is now at 35. She embodies the spirit of an American Cowgirl more than anyone I have ever known.

She has a modest home in the small town of Opelika, Alabama and has five horses that are her children. She has told me on more than one occasion that she loves her horses and they love her unconditionally and she knows the sound of their voice and when they are hurting or when they are happy. She has a bond with these magnificent animals like none I have ever seen. I have seen her grieve over the loss of one of her “babies” and not sure if she would survive it.

She was in ICU with a brain injury after being thrown from one of her horses a few years ago and she never hesitated to get back on. Nothing stops her from riding, not even pregnancy and now her three year old little girl is following in her footsteps. There is a legacy there that will never die. I can’t think of anyone more deserving to be a part of such a wonderful collection of “American Cowgirls”.

Hey, I want to still be tall in the saddle when I get up there!!
If you ever need a cowboy/girl songstress call me. . .I pick a guitar, yodel and sing the older songs to young, old and inbetweeners. . .God Bless Cowgirls.

I thoroughly enjoyed this, esp. since I love to ride. What a wonderful woman, who defnitely inspired women of all ages to go against the odds and pursue what makes them happy. It’s definitely not just a “man’’s world”.

God Bless you. I fill up with tears everytime I watch your film. Whenever I get frustrated with my horse I am going to look to you for inspiration.
Happy Trails!!!!

Hey Jamie,
A friend sent me a clip from your film, American Cowgirl. Great work, moving and inspiring. How can I see the film in its entirety? I recently met an older woman who was competing in the barrel racing here in Santa Fe, NM.  She grew up on a farm in Louisiana, worked with horses on the farm all her life. Could not afford to buy a champion so she bought her quarter horse as a yearly and trained him. ‘Barb’ and ‘Flame’ were world champions in 2006. Thanks for your good and inspirational work.

Love, Love, Love the film and the photography. Fantastic work! As an artist, and horse lover myself, I can identify. When will the film be available? I am interested in a copy for sure! Thanks for your efforts to record the cowgirl history.
God Bless,

Thanks and I will look forward to seeing more. I think of all the young girls that Connie inspired to be their own person and it just makes me cry tears of joy.
